Villa and Apartment Holidays

Puerto Banus marinaPuerto Jose Banus is a luxury marina located in the area known as New Spain, west of Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Since its creation in the early 1970's, Puerto Banus has achieved international fame as one of the main entertainment centres on the Costa del Sol.

The resort is an Andalucian village with a marina, and was the first port designed by a single architect, giving a sense of sophistication to Puerto Banus. The architect, Jose Banus, went on to become the largest developer of residential tourism complexes on the Costa del Sol.

Puerto Banus, once a traditional Spanish fishing village, was opened in May 1970, with a host of celebrities in attendance, including the Aga Khan, Roman Polanski, Hugh Hefner the founder of Playboy, Dr. Christiaan Barnard the pioneer in heart transplants, Prince Rainier III, and Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco. Julio Iglesias sang to the guests whilst 300 waiters from Seville served more than 20 kilos of Beluga caviar to the 1700 guests.

Its geographical location and its popularity with many celebrities make Puerto Banus an attractive summer holiday destination, especially at night when its discos, pubs, and bars open. The marina is home to some of the most expensive yachts in the world owned by European and Arab royal families, and their owner's equally expensive luxury cars can be seen in the town. A statue of a rhinoceros by Salvador Dali, weighing  three tons, was erected in Puerto Banus in 2004, and is officially known as Rhinoceros Dressed in Lace. It was created by Dali in 1956 after completion of his 1954 surrealist film "The Prodigious Adventure of the Lacemaker and the Rhinoceros".

Puerto Banus boasts a beach stretching for 1km, the golden sands are a major attraction. The town enjoys its own micro-climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year, and a year-round average temperature of 19 degrees.

The surrounding areas of Puerto Banus are worth exploring - especially the Sierra Bermeja Mountains to the north of the town. There are some of the best golf courses in the world within 10km of Puerto Banus making it one of the world's top golfing holiday destinations.
