Nerja, one of the Costa del Sol's best-kept secret, still retains its original Moorish character with its narrow winding streets and white washed buildings. Today you can enjoy the relaxed way of life of this attractive village with its excellent range of quality accommodation and leisure facilities.

Nerja has nearly 10kms of beaches, including the internationally famous Burriana beach with its EU Blue Flag for cleanliness. A small lane off the Balcon de Europa between the hotel and the church leads to the Playa El Salon, so well hidden that many regular visitors miss it. Further west are Playa La Torrecilla and Playa El Playazo, which can be reached down the Avenida Castilla Perez, one of Nerja’s busiest streets.

The historic centre of Nerja, including Balcon de Europa, dates from the late 15th century. At its centre is the Balcon de Europe, once a castle dating from the 9th century, and now a viewing point above the sea. From the Calahonda gap, the Paseo de Carabineros winds down through the rocks bordering the seashore to the Burriana beach. Alongside the Balcon is the 17th century church of El Salvador, built in Baroque-Mudejar style, and the nearby 16th century hermitage of "Nuestra Senora de las Angustias" contains paintings by the master Alonso Cano. On the Barranco de la Coladilla on the Cazadores de Maro cliff, near the N-340 main road, is the 19th century Eagle Aquaduct, constructed to supply water to the nearby San Joaquin sugar mill. The area has a tradition of sugar cane plantations and many sugar cane mills built from the 16th century.

The nightlife in Nerja is mainly around the Antonio Millon and the adjacent Plaza Tutti Frutti, which many bars. The area comes to life at midnight, with the bars staying open until 3.30am to 4.30am, and the disco bars even later.

East of the town on the N-340 are Nerja's famous caves, which were only discovered in 1959 and contain wall paintings thought to be over 20,000 years old. Only some of the huge chambers are open to the public, one of which has been converted into a concert auditorium with a capacity of several hundred people.

The donkey sanctuary was established in 2004, is a great place for children to see rescued donkeys, mules and horses, as well as other farm animals that have been abandoned including lambs, piglets and goats.

There is a train station in Fuengirola served by trains running from Malaga airport to the centre of Fuengirola every 30 minutes. Buses are also available, taking about 30 minutes from the airport, or taxies are readily available for around 25 Euros.
